CONTENT EDITOR:  ENGLISH TO ENGLISH (English<>English)
CURRENT CONTRACT

JTG is seeking a qualified Content Editor for English to English (English<>English)

Location: Monterey, CA

Responsibilities:
  • Edit and proofread a wide range of education and training electronic and hardcopy documents for both traditional textbook and web-based delivery
  • Edit materials for errors in spelling, punctuation, syntax, and style consistency to include limited fact checking and research. Identify corrections with standard proofreading and typesetting symbol
  • Materials are predominately written and/or translated by non-native English speakers, often requiring a quick and accurate deciphering and reorganization into a meaningful, stylistically appropriate,  learner-centric, and professional form
  • Also, confer with course writers regarding style changes, author intent, layout issues, and other content related issues
Requirements:
  • Must possess a Bachelor degree (MA Desired)
  • Must be a native speaker of English and possess experience using style manuals (The latest editions of the Chicago Manual of Style and the Government Printing Office Manual 2008)
  • Must have demonstrated experience in editing educational materials
  • Must be able to efficiently manage the work on two or more activities or projects (might have completely different style requirements) simultaneously, possess a strong attention to detail, adhere to established standards for quality, format and style, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Should also have experience in developmental and/or acquisition editing, production editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Expected to have some experience working with illustration requests, logs, copyright permissions and a familiarity with standard textbook publication, including review and revision processes, and creating and maintaining house style guides. 
  • Possesses the ability to quickly decipher and reorganize information that might seem disjointed into a meaningful and stylistically appropriate form; efficiently manage the work of two or more activities or projects simultaneously and attend to detail
  • Must have experience with all aspects of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word with an emphasis on MS Word
  • Able to interact in a fast-paced, professional, multicultural work environment; and produce professional quality, learner-centric materials for final publication; and meet deadlines
  • Substantively edit, copyedit, and proofread digital documents (instructional materials, tests, scholarly research and professional papers, presentations and briefings, and other written materials developed by non-native speakers of English to ensure correct usage of grammar, punctuation, spelling, instructional directions and native English translations of target language materials
  • Edit to ensure materials will be understandable to military language students and free of typographical, as well as, punctuation, spelling, word usage, syntax and grammar errors
Preferred:
  • Two years of experience teaching a foreign language or English as a second language is preferred
  • Masters Degree (Desired)
Education:
  • Must possess a Bachelor degree (MA Desired)
