JTG inc. is seeking a highly-skilled production support specialist (editor) to join our Curriculum Support team. Applicants should be experienced in helping customers to conceptualize end products, designing and developing educational/training media intended for a variety of delivery solutions (web-based, digital, & print). Applicants must be a native English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be able to provide Content / English editing support for educational / training materials as needed. The ideal applicant must be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural, government environment and capable of managing and organizing projects, tasks, and assignments to meet deadlines. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable team player who is passionate about multimedia, design, and producing quality education products.

Essential Job Functions: The production support specialist (editor) must be able to design and layout traditional print & digital textbooks and web-based materials for educational / training products as well as design and develop multimedia solutions. He / she will work independently as well as collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and other educational professionals to create audio, video and other media-based instructional materials for the Defense Language Institute’s Curriculum Support Division. Additionally, this position requires the ability to support Content / English editing to various degrees from basic proofreading to substantive rewrites of materials written by non-native English speakers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • English Editing - Substantively edit, copyedit, and proofread digital documents (instructional materials, tests, scholarly research and professional papers, presentations and briefings, and other written materials developed by non-native speakers of English to ensure correct usage of grammar, punctuation, spelling, instructional directions and native English translations of target language materials.
  • Desktop Publishing - Designing and laying out traditional print, digital, and web-based content, using tools such as MS Word, Adobe InDesign, and DLIFLC-proprietary authoring tools
    • Embed / link audio, video, and other media in MS Word and Adobe PDF documents
    • Incorporate culturally appropriate (present appearance of cultural authenticity) materials / visual aids / custom artwork & illustrations as well as manipulation of photos / graphics in creating visually appealing content for both traditional and online delivery.
    • Manipulate HTML/CSS to ensure web-based materials present professionally

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Multimedia Production - Record and edit audio and video for instructional purposes
    • Set up and record video sessions; create design ideas using computer-based design tools, create final products comprised of motion graphics, video, and audio using tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
    • Set up and record audio sessions; edit recordings into final product, using tools such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, etc.
    • Use course development tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, and others for screen capture video


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 1+ years of demonstrated experience creating and editing audio/video
  • 2+ years designing and laying out print materials (preferably for educational/training purposes)
  • Experience with/willing to learn audio/video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop/Illustrator, Audition, etc.)

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience teaching a Foreign Language or English as a Second Language or developing foreign language teaching / testing materials
  • Experience with UNICODE and complex foreign language (CJK, right-to-left, Latin, Cyrillic, etc.) formatting/display in both Print and Web environments
  • Ability to create custom artwork (sketch/draw) concept pieces for inclusion in traditional textbooks and/or video (animating stills images)

Note: You may be asked to provide an active portfolio of recent work.

Education:

  • AA in related field; BA preferred

Other:

  • US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a background check and maintain the necessary level of security requirement status for the location of the requesting unit (National Agency Check - NAC-1, DLIFLC’s background check, or higher security checks - SC) as needed
