Haitian Creole Interpreters
JTG is currently seeking Haitian Creole Interpreters
Location: Onboard a US Coast Guard cutter
Status: Short-term and long-term travel
Clearance: Public Trust background check
Responsibilities:
- Interpret Haitian Creole into English and from English into Haitian Creole.
- Live and work aboard a US Coast Guard vessel to provide interpreting services whenever requested 24 hours a day (including weekends and holidays).
Basic Qualifications:
- Skilled in interpreting the meaning, tone, and intent of Haitian Creole speakers’ statements.
- Skilled in written translation, audio transcription, and gists/summaries.
- Be familiar with US Coast Guard policies.
- Be physically fit and able to swim and tread water if needed.
- Be able to climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, and reach under unknown and various sea conditions.
- Prepared with suitable attire for vessel and aircraft operations such as long pants, shoes, boots, coveralls, etc.
- Must be comfortable with boarding various foreign vessels, which may be of questionable seaworthiness and with physical surroundings which may impose some discomforts, dangers, or health risks.
NOTE: Departure/return from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, or other locations in South Florida.
This position reports to the Program Manager.
