Position Overview
JTG is seeking experienced freelance Spanish-to-English translators and editors in support of a U.S. federal government contract. Assignments involve written translation and editorial review of sensitive financial, tax, and legal materials from Spanish to English. All linguists must successfully complete a government-mandated background investigation prior to beginning work.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate documents involving financial, accounting, regulatory, and tax-related subject matter
- Perform accurate English summaries of audio files and translate transcripts into the target language, in accordance with project specifications
- Apply domain-specific terminology and follow designated style guides and quality standards
- Review and provide quality control on other linguists’ work
- Communicate clearly and professionally in written and spoken English
- Meet deadlines while maintaining strict confidentiality and data-handling requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience translating from Spanish to English, with demonstrated focus on financial, tax, or legal subject matter
- Proficiency in Spanish, English, and Spanish-to-English translation at Interagency Level Roundtable (ILR) level 4 or above or equivalent
- Deep familiarity with financial, accounting, tax, and legal terminology in both Spanish and English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Must successfully complete and maintain a federal agency-mandated background investigation (Moderate Background Investigation or equivalent)
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency
Education
- Bachelor’s degree
- Degrees in translation, linguistics, finance, accounting, law, or a related field are strongly preferred
