Language Researcher

JTG is looking for Language Researchers in at least two dialects of Spanish, with an emphasis on the dialects of Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and the Caribbean, including written form. The ideal candidate must be capable of developing or assisting in the development of linguistics products such as bilingual glossaries or word lists, annotated for Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) levels 2 to 4. This is a short-term position starting immediately.

Requirements

  • US citizenship
  • Native or near-native proficiency in at least two dialects of Latin American Spanish, to include Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean, including written form
  • Full professional proficiency in English or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, linguistics, or a similar field
  • Ability to work independently as a compiler and author of language products
  • Experience with the collection, annotation, and translation of web-based language data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel (Office 19 or higher for PC or Mac OS preferred)
  • Ability to type in both English and Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Spanish, linguistics, or a similar field
  • Experience with tools used in corpus compilation and analysis
  • Familiarity with ILR or ACTFL levels
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Willingness to obtain a government Public Trust background check
  • A positive and collaborative attitude
