Description:

JTG is seeking Cleared Cultural Advisors.

Cultural Advisors provide essential advisory, interpretation, translation, and coordination services in Qatar. This role supports DoD activities and facilitates effective communication between U.S. forces and Qatar agencies.

Clearance: Current U.S. Secret clearance or current Interim Secret clearance

Languages: Arabic, English
Location: Qatar, some local travel may also be required
Status: Full-time

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a cultural advisor, expediter, translator, and coordinator, adapting to changes in leadership and personnel.
  • Interface with host government officials on issues related to facility use, manpower, resources, and administrative requirements.
  • Facilitate procurement of passports, visas, driver’s licenses, and other necessary documentation for personnel.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and customs authorities to expedite movements and resolve incidents involving DoD personnel.
  • Support the resolution of claims against the United States under the guidance of legal authorities.
  • Conduct accurate oral and written translations between English and Arabic, ensuring clarity and precision in communications.
  • Provide cultural advisement to enhance understanding and interactions between U.S. personnel and Qatari counterparts.
  • Develop and deliver cultural training sessions to improve mission effectiveness and promote positive relations.
  • Assist in general office administration tasks, including report writing and administrative duties as required.
  • Respond within one hour to any urgent/emergency situations that occurs outside of normal duty hours.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a cultural advisor in Qatar or similar GCC countries.
  • 5 years of experience as an English/Arabic translator and interpreter in an Arabic-speaking environment.
  • 3 years of experience supporting U.S. Government operations in a contingency setting.
  • Proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic at ILR Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English at ILR Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Qatari culture, customs, laws, and local protocols.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Proficient in computer applications in both English and Arabic.
  • Current U.S. Secret Clearance or Interim Secret Clearance.
  • High School Diploma (preferred)

 

This position reports to the On-Site Manager.
